Biotype
protein coding gene
Automated Description
Enables DNA-binding transcription factor binding activity; protein homodimerization activity; and transcription coregulator activity. Involved in several processes, including regulation of canonical Wnt signaling pathway; regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II; and sensory organ precursor cell fate determination. Located in nucleus. Part of ISWI-type complex. Colocalizes with polytene chromosome. Is expressed in several structures, including adult head; antennal disc; epithelium; eye disc anterior to the morphogenetic furrow; and female germline cell. Orthologous to human CTBP1 (C-terminal binding protein 1) and CTBP2 (C-terminal binding protein 2).
FB Description
C-terminal Binding Protein (CtBP) encodes a co-repressor which is recruited by repressive transcription factors through a short Pro-X-Asp-Leu-Ser (PXDLS) peptide motif. Its main role is to repress developmental enhancers.
