protein coding gene
Automated Description
Enables DNA-binding transcription activator activity, RNA polymerase II-specific and transcription cis-regulatory region binding activity. Involved in several processes, including cell surface receptor protein tyrosine kinase signaling pathway; larval lymph gland hemocyte differentiation; and morphogenesis of an epithelium. Located in nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including glial cell; gut section; imaginal disc; organism subdivision; and somatic precursor cell. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in type 1 diabetes mellitus. Orthologous to human ETS1 (ETS proto-oncogene 1, transcription factor) and ETS2 (ETS proto-oncogene 2, transcription factor).
FB Description
pointed (pnt) encodes an ETS family transcriptional activator that functions downstream of Ras signaling. It is necessary and sufficient for triggering cellular senescence upon Ras activation, and by doing so suppresses Ras-driven tumor growth.
