Gene

EloB

Species
Drosophila melanogaster
Symbol
EloB
Name
Elongin B
Synonyms
  • CG4204
  • d-elongin B
Biotype
protein coding gene
Automated Description
Involved in several processes, including imaginal disc-derived wing vein specification; larval somatic muscle development; and negative regulation of receptor signaling pathway via JAK-STAT. Part of Cul2-RING ubiquitin ligase complex and elongin complex. Is expressed in several structures, including adult head; adult heart; anterior endoderm; anterior endoderm anlage; and embryonic/larval midgut primordium. Orthologous to human ELOB (elongin B).
FB Description
Elongin B (EloB) encodes an essential protein for development that participates in the control of wing cell identity. EloB, EloC and EloA encode for subunits of the Elongin complex, which interacts in vivo with the chromatin factor encoded by corto. The proteins encoded by EloB and EloC form an adaptor subcomplex of a Cul2-RING ubiquitin ligase complex.
