A neomycin selection cassette replaced an exon encoding the invariant lysine 1108. RNAse protection analysis revealed that normal levels of a transcript lacking nucleotides 3254-3334 is produced from this allele, but no protein activity is detectable in an in vitro auto-kinase assay.
