Symbol
Ald1
Name
Aldolase 1
Synonyms
  • ALD
  • ald
Biotype
protein coding gene
Automated Description
Enables fructose-1-phosphate aldolase activity and fructose-bisphosphate aldolase activity. Involved in several processes, including canonical glycolysis; fructose 1,6-bisphosphate metabolic process; and glucose homeostasis. Located in M band and Z disc. Is expressed in several structures, including adult brain cell body rind; adult head; adult heart; calyx of adult mushroom body; and embryonic/larval CNS perineurial glial cell. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in autoimmune disease of the nervous system; hereditary fructose intolerance syndrome; and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Orthologous to several human genes including ALDOC (aldolase, fructose-bisphosphate C).
FB Description
Aldolase 1 (Ald1) encodes an enzyme that catalyzes the reversible conversion of beta-D-fructose 1,6-bisphosphate into dihydroxyacetone phosphate and D-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate, and thus plays an essential role in glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. It also catalyzes the conversion of beta-D-fructose 1-phosphate into dihydroxyacetone phosphate and D-glyceraldehyde and plays a role in fructose catabolism.
