Species
Drosophila melanogaster
Symbol

Name
inflated
Synonyms
  • alpha integrin
  • alpha-integrin
Biotype
protein coding gene
Automated Description
Enables extracellular matrix binding activity and protein heterodimerization activity. Contributes to extracellular matrix protein binding activity. Involved in several processes, including border follicle cell migration; hemocyte migration; and nervous system development. Located in basal plasma membrane; focal adhesion; and sarcolemma. Part of integrin complex. Is expressed in several structures, including adult brain; adult head; adult heart; epithelium; and muscle cell. Used to study intellectual disability. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in several diseases, including abdominal aortic aneurysm; blood platelet disease (multiple); end stage renal disease; renal agenesis; and von Willebrand's disease 1. Orthologous to several human genes including ITGA2B (integrin subunit alpha 2b).
FB Description
inflated (if) encodes one of five fly integrin alpha subunits, and when in a heterodimer with an integrin beta subunit makes a receptor for extracellular matrix proteins containing an RGD motif, such as those encoded by Tig, wb laminin and Tsp. It is required in numerous tissues for cell migration and adhesion between cell layers.
