sn

Species
Drosophila melanogaster
Symbol
sn
Name
singed
Synonyms
  • CG15331
  • CG1536
Biotype
protein coding gene
Automated Description
Predicted to enable actin filament binding activity. Involved in several processes, including antennal morphogenesis; hemocyte migration; and plasma membrane bounded cell projection organization. Located in several cellular components, including actin cytoskeleton; neuron projection; and neuronal cell body. Is expressed in several structures, including embryonic/larval hemocyte; epithelial cell; epithelium; head epidermis primordium; and trunk visceral muscle primordium. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in retinitis pigmentosa and retinitis pigmentosa 30. Orthologous to human FSCN1 (fascin actin-bundling protein 1) and FSCN2 (fascin actin-bundling protein 2, retinal).
FB Description
singed (sn) encodes a member of the fascin family of actin-binding proteins. Fascin proteins organize F-actin into parallel bundles, and are required for the formation of actin-based cellular protrusions. The bundling activity of the product of sn is regulated by phosphorylation.
