Gene

Gβ76C

Species
Drosophila melanogaster
Symbol
Gβ76C
Name
G protein beta subunit 76C
Synonyms
  • CG8770
  • DGqbeta
Biotype
protein coding gene
Automated Description
Enables phospholipase activator activity and protein heterodimerization activity. Involved in negative regulation of smoothened signaling pathway and phospholipase C-activating opsin-mediated signaling pathway. Located in cytoplasm and rhabdomere. Part of heterotrimeric G-protein complex. Is expressed in Johnston organ; adult head; photoreceptor; photoreceptor neurons; and synaptic neuropil domain.
FB Description
G protein beta-subunit 76C (Gbeta76C) encodes a protein that forms a Gbeta-gamma complex that is anchored to the plasma membrane via lipid modification of the gamma-subunit . The Gbeta-gamma complex plays an essential role in phototransduction by presenting the Gqalpha-subunit to rhodopsin GPCRs for efficient activation, and preventing spontaneous GDP-GTP exchange on the Gqalpha-subunit.
