Gene

U2af50

Species
Drosophila melanogaster
Symbol
U2af50
Name
U2 small nuclear riboprotein auxiliary factor 50
Synonyms
  • 9-21
  • CG9998
Biotype
protein coding gene
Automated Description
Enables poly-pyrimidine tract binding activity. Involved in mRNA splicing, via spliceosome; nuclear export; and positive regulation of RNA export from nucleus. Located in nucleoplasm. Part of U2AF complex. Is expressed in adult brain cell body rind; adult head; and organism. Used to study developmental delay, dysmorphic facies, and brain anomalies. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in developmental delay, dysmorphic facies, and brain anomalies. Orthologous to human U2AF2 (U2 small nuclear RNA auxiliary factor 2).
FB Description
U2 small nuclear riboprotein auxiliary factor 50 (U2af50) encodes the large subunit of the heterodimeric complex U2AF. U2AF binds to the intron pyrimidine tract between the branchpoint and the 3' splice site and targets U2 snRNP to the branch site early in spliceosome assembly.
