Symbol
Cyp6a17
Name
Cytochrome P450 6a17
Synonyms
  • 61D6S
  • 6a17
Biotype
protein coding gene
Automated Description
Predicted to enable several functions, including heme binding activity; iron ion binding activity; and monooxygenase activity. Involved in thermosensory behavior. Is expressed in several structures, including adult head; adult mushroom body; adult pars intercerebralis; dorsal thoracic disc; and gut section. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in familial Mediterranean fever. Orthologous to several human genes including CYP3A7-CYP3A51P (CYP3A7-CYP3A51P readthrough); CYP3A4 (cytochrome P450 family 3 subfamily A member 4); and CYP3A43 (cytochrome P450 family 3 subfamily A member 43).
FB Description
Cytochrome P450-6a17 (Cyp6a17) encodes a member of the cytochrome P450 (CYP) family of proteins involved in the oxidation of diverse organic substrates. Cyp6a17 expression in the mushroom bodies of the brain is regulated by cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) and is required for temperature preference behavior.
