Gene

Orc4

Species
Drosophila melanogaster
Symbol
Orc4
Name
Origin recognition complex subunit 4
Synonyms
  • CG2917
  • DmORC4
Biotype
protein coding gene
Automated Description
Enables ribonucleoprotein complex binding activity. Involved in DNA replication initiation. Located in nucleus. Part of nuclear origin of replication recognition complex and nuclear pore. Is expressed in several structures, including central brain primordium; embryonic central brain neurons; ganglia; larval nervous system; and lateral cord. Used to study Meier-Gorlin syndrome 2. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in Meier-Gorlin syndrome 2. Orthologous to human ORC4 (origin recognition complex subunit 4).
FB Description
Origin recognition complex subunit 4 (Orc4) encodes is a subunit of the hetero-hexameric origin recognition complex (ORC). The ORC binds to origins of DNA replication and scaffolds assembly of a pre-replicative complex, which is required for the initiation of DNA replication. At other loci, the ORC is required for heterochromatin formation.
