Gene

FucTA

Species
Drosophila melanogaster
Symbol
FucTA
Name
alpha1,3-fucosyltransferase A
Synonyms
  • alpha1,3-fucosyltransferase
  • alpha1,3-fucosyltransferase A
Biotype
protein coding gene
Automated Description
Enables glycoprotein 3-alpha-L-fucosyltransferase activity. Involved in N-glycan fucosylation; nervous system development; and protein glycosylation. Located in Golgi medial cisterna. Is expressed in adult head; embryonic brain; embryonic/larval garland cell; larval nervous system; and larval ventral nerve cord. Used to study candidiasis. Orthologous to several human genes including FUT3 (fucosyltransferase 3 (Lewis blood group)); FUT4 (fucosyltransferase 4); and FUT5 (fucosyltransferase 5).
FB Description
alpha1,3-fucosyltransferase A (FucTA) encodes a Golgi fucosyltransferase that transfers fucose in alpha1,3-linkage to core N-acetylglucosamine residues of N-linked oligosaccharides. It is required for the synthesis of the anti-horseradish peroxidase epitope.
