Synonyms
  • anon-WO0118547.411

Biotype
protein coding gene
Automated Description
Enables DNA-binding transcription factor activity and transcription cis-regulatory region binding activity. Involved in several processes, including positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II; response to copper ion; and stress response to metal ion. Located in cytoplasm and nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including embryonic/larval garland cell; embryonic/larval midgut primordium; garland cell primordium; gut section; and larval muscle cell. Orthologous to human MTF1 (metal regulatory transcription factor 1).
FB Description
Metal response element-binding Transcription Factor-1 (MTF-1) encodes a zinc finger protein that primarily controls the homeostasis of physiological trace metals, such as zinc and copper, and the detoxification of non-essential, toxic heavy metals, such as cadmium, mercury, and silver. It activates a number of genes in response to heavy metal load but also induces transcription of the copper importer encoded by Ctr1B upon copper depletion. Variations in the DNA binding site can affect its response to a specific metal.
