Gene

HSP90B1

Species
Homo sapiens
Symbol
HSP90B1
Name
heat shock protein 90 beta family member 1
Synonyms
  • 94 kDa glucose-regulated protein
  • ECGP
Biotype
protein coding gene
Automated Description
Enables several functions, including low-density lipoprotein particle receptor binding activity; protein phosphatase binding activity; and protein phosphatase inhibitor activity. Involved in negative regulation of apoptotic process; response to hypoxia; and retrograde protein transport, ER to cytosol. Acts upstream of or within actin rod assembly and cellular response to ATP. Located in several cellular components, including endoplasmic reticulum; midbody; and perinuclear region of cytoplasm. Part of protein-containing complex. Biomarker of lung adenocarcinoma.
RGD Description
This gene encodes a member of a family of adenosine triphosphate(ATP)-metabolizing molecular chaperones with roles in stabilizing and folding other proteins. The encoded protein is localized to melanosomes and the endoplasmic reticulum. Expression of this protein is associated with a variety of pathogenic states, including tumor formation. There is a microRNA gene located within the 5' exon of this gene. There are pseudogenes for this gene on chromosomes 1 and 15. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2012]
