Gene

NT5E

Species
Homo sapiens
Symbol
NT5E
Name
5'-nucleotidase ecto
Synonyms
  • 5 nucleotidase
  • 5' nucleotidase (CD73)
Biotype
protein coding gene
Automated Description
Enables several functions, including 5'-deoxynucleotidase activity; 5'-nucleotidase activity; and zinc ion binding activity. Involved in ATP metabolic process; leukocyte cell-cell adhesion; and response to ATP. Located in cytosol; membrane; and nucleoplasm. Is active in plasma membrane. Implicated in hereditary arterial and articular multiple calcification syndrome.
RGD Description
The protein encoded by this gene is a plasma membrane protein that catalyzes the conversion of extracellular nucleotides to membrane-permeable nucleosides. The encoded protein is used as a determinant of lymphocyte differentiation. Defects in this gene can lead to the calcification of joints and arteries. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Mar 2011]
