Gene

PLPP1

Species
Homo sapiens
Symbol
PLPP1
Name
phospholipid phosphatase 1
Synonyms
  • lipid phosphate phosphohydrolase 1
  • lipid phosphate phosphohydrolase 1a
Biotype
protein coding gene
Automated Description
Enables ceramide-1-phosphate phosphatase activity; phosphatidate phosphatase activity; and sphingosine-1-phosphate phosphatase activity. Involved in several processes, including phospholipid dephosphorylation; phospholipid metabolic process; and sphingolipid metabolic process. Located in apical plasma membrane and membrane raft.
RGD Description
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the phosphatidic acid phosphatase (PAP) family. PAPs convert phosphatidic acid to diacylglycerol, and function in synthesis of glycerolipids and in phospholipase D-mediated signal transduction. This enzyme is an integral membrane glycoprotein that plays a role in the hydrolysis and uptake of lipids from extracellular space. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants of this gene. [provided by RefSeq, May 2013]
