Enables DNA-binding transcription activator activity, RNA polymerase II-specific and estrogen response element binding activity. Involved in positive regulation of cold-induced thermogenesis and positive regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Predicted to be located in chromatin. Predicted to be active in nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including central nervous system; genitourinary system; gut; heart; and sensory organ. Orthologous to human ESRRG (estrogen related receptor gamma).
MGI Description
PHENOTYPE: Nullizygous mutations lead to postnatal lethality. Homozygotes for a null allele show reduced birth weight, fasting hyperlactatemia, altered electrocardiograms and mitochondrial function, and agenesis of the renal papilla. Surviving homozygotes for a different null allele exhibit hearing loss.
