Predicted to enable adenylate cyclase inhibiting G protein-coupled glutamate receptor activity and protein homodimerization activity. Involved in locomotory behavior and sensory perception of light stimulus. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including retina development in camera-type eye; signal transduction; and synapse assembly. Located in new growing cell tip. Is active in cell tip and dendrite. Is expressed in prostate gland; retina inner nuclear layer; and testis. Used to study congenital stationary night blindness 1B. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in congenital stationary night blindness 1B. Orthologous to human GRM6 (glutamate metabotropic receptor 6).
MGI Description
PHENOTYPE: Homozygous null mice show loss of ON responses without significant alteration of OFF responses in visual transmission or changes in visual behavioral responses. ENU-induced mutant mice have an ERG that lacks the rod b-wave and scotopic threshold response, while the cone ERG is of large amplitude. [provided by MGI curators]
