Involved in several processes, including Golgi to plasma membrane transport; ascospore-type prospore assembly; and membrane addition at site of cytokinesis. Located in incipient cellular bud site; mating projection tip; and transport vesicle. Used to study Dyggve-Melchior-Clausen disease and Smith-McCort dysplasia. Orthologous to several human genes including RAB8A (RAB8A, member RAS oncogene family).
