Predicted to be a structural constituent of cuticle. Predicted to be located in membrane. Predicted to be part of collagen trimer. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in cocaine dependence. Orthologous to human COL21A1 (collagen type XXI alpha 1 chain).
WB Description
col-33 encodes a predicted cuticular collagen; by homology, col-33 is predicted to play a role in cuticle biosynthesis and regulation of body size and morphogenesis; however, as loss of col-33 activity via large-scale RNAi screens does not result in any obvious abnormalities, the precise role of COL-33 in C. elegans development and/or behavior is not yet known.
