Species
Caenorhabditis elegans
Symbol
nfm-1
Name
NeuroFibroMatosis homolog 1
Synonyms
  • CELE_F42A10.2
  • F42A10.2
Biotype
protein coding gene
Automated Description
Predicted to enable actin binding activity and integrin binding activity. Predicted to be involved in several processes, including positive regulation of early endosome to late endosome transport; positive regulation of protein localization to early endosome; and regulation of hippo signaling. Predicted to be located in several cellular components, including anchoring junction; cytoplasm; and cytoskeleton. Predicted to be active in several cellular components, including adherens junction; apical part of cell; and filopodium. Is expressed in several structures, including excretory gland cell; hypodermis; intestine; non-striated muscle; and rectal gland cell. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in gastrointestinal system cancer (multiple); malignant pleural mesothelioma; meningioma (multiple); neurilemmoma; and vestibular schwannomatosis. Orthologous to human NF2 (NF2, moesin-ezrin-radixin like (MERLIN) tumor suppressor).
WB Description
nfm-1 encodes a homolog of human merlin/schwannomin (NF2), which when mutated leads to neurofibromatosis, type 2 (OMIM:101000); at the same time, it is also homologous to the ERM family of cytoskeletal linkers with approximately equal similarity to ezrin, radixin and moesin.
