Predicted to enable SNAP receptor activity and SNARE binding activity. Predicted to be involved in several processes, including endoplasmic reticulum to Golgi vesicle-mediated transport; synaptic vesicle docking; and vesicle fusion. Predicted to be located in membrane and presynapse. Predicted to be part of SNARE complex. Predicted to be active in Golgi membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including anal depressor muscle; excretory gland cell; nervous system; pharynx; and reproductive system. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in congenital disorder of glycosylation type II. Orthologous to human STX5 (syntaxin 5).
WB Description
syx-5 is an ortholog of human STX5 (syntaxin 5); syx-5 is involved in apoptotic process, embryo development, hermaphrodite genitalia development, locomotion, nematode larval development, positive regulation of growth, receptor-mediated endocytosis, reproduction and secretion by cell; syx-5 is expressed in the pharynx, anal depressor muscle, nervous system, reproductive system, excretory gland cell, and the body wall musculature; at the sub-cellular level, SYX-5::GFP shows a punctate pattern in the epidermis that could correspond to the Golgi apparatus, in addition to a faint pattern highly reminiscent of adherens junctions.
