Predicted to enable ribonucleoprotein complex binding activity. Predicted to be involved in maturation of LSU-rRNA from tricistronic rRNA transcript (SSU-rRNA, 5.8S rRNA, LSU-rRNA). Predicted to be located in nucleolus and nucleoplasm. Predicted to be part of PeBoW complex and preribosome, large subunit precursor. Orthologous to human BOP1 (BOP1 ribosomal biogenesis factor).
WB Description
Y48B6A.1 encodes an ortholog of human BOP1 (OMIM:610596, overexpressed in colon cancer) and S. cerevisiae ERB1; Y48B6A.1 may suppress tumorous growth in the germ line by ensuring robust larval germline proliferation; like PRO-1, -2, and -3, Y48B6A.1 is probably required for ribosome biogenesis, suggesting a link between biogenesis in the distal sheath and control of cell division in the germ line; however, BOP1 is also a phosphoprotein in mitotic spindles and required for normal chromosomal segregation, raising the possibility that Y48B6A.1 is multifunctional.
