A 19 bp oligonucleotide containing a restriction site and a translation termination codon was inserted into exon 2. In addition, part of exon 3 was replaced with a neomycin resistance cassette. Northern blot and western blot analysis confirmed that no detectable transcript or protein was expressed from this allele.
